Assignment # 17
I got a chance to add some things to the OU Libraries wiki sandbox page. I'll post more later.
Assignment #16
Wikis seem like a good way to capture group or community knowledge if you have a willing and active group. The wikis listed here show a number of uses like keeping track of events and meetings, sharing book information, and creating subject guides.
For Alden Library, we could use wikis staff side to keep track of what's going on with servers, printers, and database access...or even what's going on building side.
I think wikis could also be used to capture the staff's tacit knowledge. Like all the how-to Alice procedures we have to perform (like changing our passwords) but not everyday. In this instance, maybe we would have to have staff-only access to the wiki.
Wikis are also good for telling users about new services and letting users provide feedback and comments about your collection and services. Letting everyone have access to the wiki webpage introduces an element of chaos but if enough people participate, I think it can be tempered.

Web 2.0: Where will the next generation of the web it take libraries?
My thoughts after reading the NextSpace article found here.
Web 2.0 as it relates to libraries seems to be making our services more readily available in ways that are convenient for our users. It's all about service and making our data work for us for the benefit of our patrons.
Maybe next summer we'll have to learn about Web 3D or Web 4.0 .

Technorati
I created a technorati account and added my blog to the blogosphere. I'm not sure how I feel about having my own blog tracked but technorati has a lot of great features for keeping track of blogs and searching all blogs registered with technorati. There's probably a lot more there to discover.
